Top College Football Week 6 Games and Picks

College Football Week 6 doesn't have the same level of games as last week. Week 5 was the best of the season and shook up the College Football Playoff race. This week may not have the same level of hype leading into it, but there are still some excellent games to watch. One hope for this week in college football is that it has as many surprises as last week, with several notable games from unexpected teams and conferences. The ACC alone provided two thrillers. The SEC led the way with four one-score games.

Last week, Off the Field & Screen went 3-2 on its picks. Let us know if you beat that, and if you agree that these will be the five best games.

Top College Football Week 6 Games Quick List

  1. 16 Vanderbilt @ 10 Alabama Saturday 3:30 PM ET on ABC

  2. 3 Miami @ 18 FSU Saturday 7:30 PM ET on ESPN

  3. Mississippi State @ 6 Texas A&M Saturday 7:30 PM ET on SEC Network

  4. Boise State @ Notre Dame Saturday 3:30 PM ET on NBC

  5. 9 Texas @ Florida Saturday 3:30 PM ET on ESPN

16 Vanderbilt @ 10 Alabama

It is the strangest timeline possible. Not only is this week's matchup between Vanderbilt and Alabama one of the best games, but it may also be one of the most consequential games of the season. Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide just went to Georgia and won, but this is the SEC; there are no breaks. Vanderbilt, coached by Clark Lea, has punished every opponent this season, as Diego Pavia has thrown for over 1,200 yards and 13 touchdowns. Last season, the Commodores upset the Tide, but this year, they'll be ready.

Betting Odds: Alabama -11.5 (Per ESPN)

Off the Field and Screen Pick: Vanderbilt

3 Miami @ 18 FSU

Miami has looked like one of the nation's best teams. They remain undefeated, but this is their first in-conference test. It seems increasingly likely that this conference will have only one representative in the CFP. After Florida State's loss to Virginia last week, they'll need this one to remain in the conversation. Georgia Tech is also undefeated, so two losses will likely keep FSU out of the Conference title. If this game feels like their season is on the line, it's because it is.

Betting Odds: Miami -6.5 (Per ESPN)

Off the Field and Screen Pick: Miami

Mississippi State @ 6 Texas A&M

Mississippi State and Texas A&M are on opposite ends of the spectrum, but not in the way you think. Mississippi State nearly took down SEC opponent Tennessee last week, but they beat now-ranked Arizona State earlier this season. Texas A&M beat Notre Dame and then unranked SEC opponent Auburn 16-10 last week. The difference between these two teams is a loss to a top-15 opponent. Texas A&M's win over Notre Dame has been valued much higher than the Bulldogs' win over Arizona State. This one should be close and could provide further evidence of the flaws of the AP system.

Betting Odds: Texas A&M -13.5 (Per ESPN)

Off the Field and Screen Pick: Mississippi State

Boise State @ Notre Dame

Notre Dame notably remained in the top 25 despite suffering two early-season losses. They've put it on Purdue and Arkansas, but the Fighting Irish haven't yet shown they can beat a quality opponent. Boise State may be their toughest opponent since Texas A&M. Notre Dame needs to continue blowing out teams to help strengthen their CFP case. They don't have any ranked opponents left on their schedule and no conference title game to boost their standing.

Betting Odds: Notre Dame -17.5 (Per ESPN)

Off the Field and Screen Pick: Notre Dame

9 Texas @ Florida

This game was likely pictured as a better matchup before the season started, and Florida went into a free fall. Florida, however, held its own against the overrated LSU a few weeks ago. Texas has no wins against a Power Four team this season. Billy Napier may be fighting for his job. His team's defense may be able to frustrate Texas and Arch Manning enough to secure a win in this game. Remember, it is Manning's first SEC road game as the starter. The environment may be too much for him. Florida is a raucous environment as well.

Betting Odds: Texas -6.5 (Per ESPN)

Off the Field and Screen Pick: Florida
